How to Find Fencing Tournaments Near You

A step-by-step way to find the right competitions — by location, weapon, age category and level.

Whether you're entering your first local event or planning a full national season, finding the right tournaments comes down to a few simple questions: who can you fence, where, and by when do you have to sign up? Here's the fastest way to answer all of them.

The short version
  • Know your age category and rating — they decide what you're eligible for.
  • Decide whether you want local events or regional/national ones.
  • Local events are on AskFred; regional & national are on USA Fencing.
  • Filter by distance, weapon, age, rating and date — and always check the registration deadline.
  • The shortcut: search both sources at once right here on FencingEvents.org.

Step by step

  1. Pin down your category and rating

Your age category (Y10 through Veteran) and your rating (U through A) determine which events you can enter — including which division you belong in. Sort this out first; everything else follows — or let the Eligibility Checker do it for you.

  2. Decide local vs. regional/national

New to it, or fencing for fun and experience? Start local. Chasing points, ratings or national qualification? You'll want regional and national events like ROCs, RYCs and NACs. Our event-types guide breaks down each one.

  3. Search the right source

Local tournaments live on AskFred; regional and national events on USA Fencing. Neither shows everything, so most people end up checking both — here's how the two compare.

  4. Filter by what matters

Narrow the list by distance from you, weapon (foil, épée, sabre), age category, rating/division, and the date that fits your schedule. The right event is the intersection of all of these — not just the next one on the calendar.

  5. Check the deadline and register

National events close well before the event date, and popular ones fill or cap entries. Note the registration deadline the moment you find an event, and sign up early.

The shortcut: search both sources at once

The slow way is to run separate searches on AskFred and USA Fencing and merge the results in your head. The fast way is to let one tool do it for you.

FencingEvents.org aggregates tournaments and camps from both AskFred and USA Fencing, updated daily. Search by location, distance, weapon, age and event type → Or browse tournaments by state.

A few tips

  • Talk to your coach about which events fit your goals before committing to travel.
  • Budget realistically — national events mean entry fees plus travel, hotel and food.
  • Make sure your membership is current. Sanctioned events require an active USA Fencing membership; see our memberships guide.
  • Plan around deadlines and the season calendar, especially if you're targeting qualification for Summer Nationals or Junior Olympics.
